Genesis

This Genesis overview sets the stage for the most popular book ever written. The journey starts here, in the beginning.

Genesis 1: Creation--How can we get new perspective on verses we all know so well? Cue the astronauts--the 3 brilliant men of Apollo 8!

Genesis 2: God created us! This is where we begin. God was so intimately involved in the creation of man and woman, but what was His purpose?

Genesis 3 (aptly named "The Fall") is where our world starts to crack. It's where we meet a new and horrible character: Satan.

Genesis 4, unfortunately, shows the first murder. Today, we look at the sin and consequences in the story of Adam and Eve's children.

Genesis 5 gives us a detailed look at Seth's line. Heather and Susan become detectives and show us why genealogies are important, even today.

Curious about Nephilim? We share 3 explanations. From there, we meet Noah, a hero with an Ark--all in Genesis 6.

The tragic story of the flood comes to pass in Genesis 7. Noah obeys and God shows up in miraculous ways in this week's episode.

In Genesis 8, we see the ark aftermath. After such a big year for Noah's family, God provides direction to Noah through a sweet covenant.

We are back on dry land and meet Noah's family three sons: Ham, Shem, and Japheth. Genesis 9 and 10--where 3 sons become 70 nations.

Genesis 11 describes the Tower of Babel. Susan shows us how this attempt to elevate their name provided a great contrast to Jesus in the NT.

Genesis 12 starts the second half of Genesis. Chapters 1-11 were about God and the World. Chapters 12-50 are about God and Abraham's family.

Genesis 13 shows us the consequences of Abraham's time in Egypt. Susan and Heather discuss the separation of Abraham and Lot.

What story would be complete without a battle? Genesis 14 brings us Abram's first battle and quite the rescue mission.

In Genesis 15 and 16, we see the rollercoaster that is Abraham's life. He has ups of trusting God and downs of doubting. God shows kindness.

In Genesis 17, we move ahead 13 years. Abram gets a name change, and the men in Abraham's family get a physical reminder of the covenant.

Genesis 18 brings some visitors to Abraham with some long-awaited news! Abraham and Sarah react to the news and visitors differently.

Genesis 19 shows the heart of concerned Abraham. We see Abraham question God and God lovingly show Abraham that he is faithful.

The rest of Genesis 19 sees the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah take place. Susan and Heather discuss Lot's reaction to the impending doom.

Genesis 21 sees Abraham and Sarah get their fulfilled promise in the form of baby Isaac. We also dig into more sibling rivalries.

Genesis 22 and 23 see God testing Abraham's faith through the sacrifice of Isaac. Is Isaac more precious than God to Abraham?

Ever wonder how matches were made back in Abraham's time? In Genesis 24, Susan and Heather talk about Eliezer's story.

In Genesis 25 and 26, we meet Jacob and Esau. Listen in as Heather and Susan discuss the big switch over an important birthright.

Listen as we share the story of Genesis 27 of how Jacob and Rebekah went after the blessing after securing the birthright last episode.

In Genesis 29 and 30, the script changes. Instead of a switch between brothers, listen as Susan and Heather talk about a sister switch.

As we know, every sin has at least one consequence. Genesis 31 walks through Jacob's journey of consequences.

Our focus today turns to Jacob's family in which God promises will become a nation. Genesis 33 centers on reconciliation between brothers.

Jacob and Leah's daughter, Dinah, becomes the victim of rape. This act stirs Dinah's brothers to scheme and get revenge in Genesis 34 and 35.

Esau and Joseph are mentioned in Genesis 36 and 37. Esau says goodbye. Esau and Jacob's behavior of brotherly fighting have been passed down

In Genesis 38 and 39, we see Judah and Tamar. Tamar's strong character shows in this twisted story while Judah has some growing to do.

Joseph is quite the character and his life is anything but easy. Genesis 40 and 41 shows a true rags to riches story.

A classic Bible story--the story of Joseph and his brothers. Genesis 42 and 43 add layers to this story, giving us a new appreciation for this story of unity.

Would you love the ones who hurt you? In Genesis 44, Joseph schemes to unify his family. He plans three tests for his brothers.

Joseph and Judah take center stage as Judah fights for Benjamin. Genesis 45 shows us how reconciliation is never off the table.

Genesis 47 and 48 clearly show the two paths of this father and son duo-Jacob and Joseph- two men that helped shape mighty Israel.

Genesis 49 is a hefty chapter where Jacob prophecies for his 12 sons that make up the 12 tribes of Israel.

In Genesis 50, we see Joseph take charge. Joseph rallies his family to honor Jacob and stays the voice of reason for his dramatic brothers.

Today's episode is unique! We have completed reading the book of Genesis and while Susan and Heather have covered many questions during the past year--there were some remaining questions we wanted to answer.
